Dr. Jerome Hunt (He/Him/His)

Dr. Jerome Hunt is an Associate Professor of Political Science in the Department of History, Political Science, & Ethnic Studies and the Academic Senate President at Long Beach City College. He received his BA in Political Science and Masters of Administration with a concentration in Public Administration from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Hunt received his doctorate in American Government and Political Behavior and Black Politics from Howard University. He is a scholar/advocate whose research focuses on Black leadership in a "post-racial" America, socioeconomic/social justice issues affecting the Black community, and the Black LGBTQIA+ community.

Dr. Hunt serves as the Chair of the LGBTQ Caucus for the National Conference of Black Political Scientists and the Membership Secretary and founding member of the Greater Long Beach Black Democratic Club. He is a Life Member of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity. Dr. Hunt has previously served on the Executive Board of the Long Beach Democratic Club and the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club and as a member of the Board of Directors for the West Chester University of Pennsylvania Alumni Association and Safe Space NOVA.

Before entering academia, Dr. Hunt worked for Reed Smith, LLP, the Center for American Progress, and the Executive Office of the President of the United States. After completing his doctorate, Dr. Hunt worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC).  While at UDC, he became a certified online instructor and coordinated the Congressional Internship Program. Dr. Hunt is the author of Between the Margins: Introduction to American Government and co-author of the forthcoming African American LGBTQ+/SGL Politics: An Introduction,

Dr. Hunt is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a diehard Philadelphia Phillies Phan. In his spare time, he mentors African American college students, volunteers in the LGBTQIA+ Community, writes opinion pieces (his work has been featured in the Washington Blade & the National Journal), enjoys listening to film scores (especially those composed by John Williams), and plays the flute and piccolo (previously in Washington DC’s Different Drummers Capitol Pride Symphonic Band).  He currently resides in Southern California with his husband, Alvin, and their two children.
